Philip Amos - Minister   Melissa Ruparell - Church Administrator
Rachel and I joined the Bushey Baptist church family in January 2022, as it became clear to us that the church's vision to ‘Go Deeper’ matched our vision to work with a church that wanted to explore walking faithfully with God, and to see God’s kingdom come in all its fullness, both in the church and in the surrounding communities.

I have been in full time ministry since 1988 and in that time I have served as a youth pastor, church planter and a senior minister, in churches in Nottinghamshire, Bedfordshire and West Sussex. I bring a huge amount of enthusiasm and joy as well as a passion to see all of God’s people released into the gifting and ministries that God has called them to.

When not at church, I like to walk in the countryside, seeing if I can take any good photographs. I also like cars, especially convertibles, and one of my favourite joys is to go driving on a summer's evening, with the roof down, just for the fun of it! I am also a very bad golfer.

Rachel is a head teacher at a local infant and primary school, and loves nothing more than helping people to blossom in all that God has given them, and to see people fully released in praise and worship. We have 4 sons and 5 grandchildren, which we love to see whenever we can.
I was born in the USA, and moved to the UK and married my husband Barry in 2002. We have 3 children. I moved to join this church in 2003, and I am currently serving as a deacon in the church.

I have been the church administrator since 2019, which proved to be very interesting due to the pandemic!. I have really loved getting involved in church life over the years and love serving on various teams throughout the church. It is a pleasure to see so many different people and nationalities come and join us over the years that I have been a part of the church.

In my spare time I love reading and baking.

Hi I'm Viv and am married to Tim. We have a grown up son, Benjamin. Our family also includes cats and budgies! An interesting combination.

We started at Bushey Baptist as a family at the end of 2021and we LOVE it here! My background is in education as a teacher, Dep Head and home educating Mum.

I love to spend time with my family and friends. These are some of the things I enjoy doing with them... talking, walking, cycling, kayaking,  eating, dancing, cinema and the occasional bit of dressing up.

I have been married to Stuart since 1976, and we have 2 daughters who are married with children. We have been worshipping at Bushey Baptist Church since 1985. I am part of the pastoral care and prayer ministry teams, and Stu and I help at the Carers’ Club and host a Home Group. I love the opportunity to meet and get to know people in the church, both long-standing members and new people.

I am now retired, having worked as a GP in Bushey for many years. Although I loved my work, I am also thoroughly enjoying retirement! I enjoy having the time to help out with our family, and also at church.

Planning your Visit

New to church

Just come as you are...

If you are planning to visit our church on a Sunday, the following should help you feel at home with us a s soon as possible.

Where and When

For our Sunday morning service, we meet upstairs, while the children take over the downstairs for all their different groups. Our service starts at 10:30 and if this is your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. To get to our car park type WD23 2NG in to your sat nav, and this will take you to the back of our church. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team who will be happy to answer any questions that you may have, and will be able to direct you upstairs to where we have the service. Please note, if you are using the lift, you need to go to level1. Click here (details here) for a few more general details about our church.

Our morning service usually finishes between 11:45 and 12, and the we serve tea, coffee and biscuits downstairs. This is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival if you need any help. There are disabled toilets both up and downstairs.

Our Morning Service

The main service begins at 10:30am with a warm welcome from the person leading the service. While no two services are the same, the general pattern for our services is that we have a welcome, then we sing a couple of songs, then someone leads an all age talk which afterwards the children go out to their groups. Then we sing some more, before the sermon which is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life, this lasts around 20-30 minutes. We then have a time for people to response and get prayer while during a time of worship. Sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible. Sometimes people share things that they believe God is saying to the whole church family. This might seem strange the first time you hear it but it’s all part of our connecting with God. There is always an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

What do the children get up to?

We have a great programme lined up for kids of all ages:

  • Creche (0 months to 2 years). We have a wide selection of age appropriate toys and baby facilities to keep your little one happy busy on a Sunday morning.
  • CBBC (We have two CBBC's groups. One is for children in school years 2-4, and the other is for those in years 5-6) Each Sunday session is interactive and fun packed, with bible teaching to help our children learn more about God.
  • Legacy is for those aged 11-18?  At Legacy they get into the Bible, pray together and help each other to come closer to Jesus. While having loads of fun on the journey!

Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, songs and notices. We really value worshipping God all together as a family. When it is time for the children to go to their group, someone will announce that it’s time for them to go to their various groups. You will need to go with your children to their groups and register them as part of our child safety policy.

Getting Connected

House Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of a house group allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some mornings and some evenings. Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.

Serving and Volunteering

If you want to get involved in the life of the church and help us make Sundays run smoothly, you can sign up to serve on a team.

We also run the following ministries:
